The details

Who it’s for

Diabetes Canada recommends a blood sugar test (fasting glucose or A1C) for everyone 40 and over, and earlier for people at high risk.

How often

Every 3 years. More often if your risk is very high.

Cost

A doctor or nurse practitioner must order the blood test. Public blood collection centres take your health card. A private lab may charge you; prices vary.
